Omam More Kuzhambu (Ajwain Buttermilk Curry)

Omam/ajwain has lots of medicinal values. It helps to cure many digestion problems. My mom used to give us oomam/ajwain water in our childhood days, if we have stomach problem or not feeling hungry. They used to give kids this water atleast once in a week as it purifies the stomach. Even grown up people used to drink this water for all their stomach problems. We used to stock this water at all times in our home. This buttermilk curry will be very different from the usual one we used to make. It is very flavorful and tasty curry.

Ingredients:

Curd/Yogurt - 1 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Mustard - 1 tsp
Urad dal - 2 tsp
Salt - to taste
Coconut oil - 1 tbsp

For grinding:
Red chillies - 3 or 4
Toor dal - 1 tbsp
Bengal Gram/Chana dal - 1 tbsp
Urad dal - 1/2 tbsp
Ajwain/Omam - 1/2 tsp
Coconut - 2 tbsp

Method:

1) Heat a pan and dry roast all ingredients except coconut. Let it cool and make a fine paste of it by adding the coconut to it.

2) In a bowl, take the curd/yogurt. Mix the fine paste to it.

3) Now heat a pan and transfer this curd mixture to the pan. Also add salt and turmeric powder. Let it cook for about 3 to 5 minutes. Do not let it boil as it will get curdled. Remove from flame when it starts to make foam like bubbles.

4) Now heat a pan and do the seasoning. Add coconut oil and add mustard seeds. Once it starts to splutter, add urad dal and curry leaves. Pour it in the curry.

Different tasting and healthy ajwain buttermilk curry is ready now.

Have it with hot white rice.

  12. I am your 54th follower & not 60th follower.
Wrongly typed in my earlier comment as 60th.
    I feel sorry for that.

The earlier number shown as 53 was wrongly read by me as 59.
That is the reason for my confusion.
I have to meet the eye doctor also.
    OK ... Bye for now.
