Chukku Milagu Kaarakkuzhambu (Spicy Dry Ginger & Pepper Curry)

Ginger and pepper one of the very common ingredients in Indian cooking, which also has number of medicinal values. Ginger is a very good food preservative. Its helps to reduce the risk of heart diseases and also lowers cholesterol. Also ginger is a strong antioxidant. Dry ginger powder is very effective for muscle pain and joint pain relief. Even migraine headaches are helped by this ginger. Pepper is widely used in traditional Indian medicine. Also it is one of the main remedy for cough, sore throat and throat congestion.



Ginger's and pepper's benefits are numerous.  So this recipe is very spicy and very healthy too. You can have this recipe for a week and it won't go bad. Just have it along with hot white rice and it tastes very good.   The spiciness in pepper and ginger is very good for health. Also we can give this for kids as it has lots of medicinal values.



Ingredients:

Onion - 1 (finely chopped)
Tomato - 1 (chopped)
Garlic - 2 or 3 cloves
Tamarind - small lemon size ball
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Chilli powder - 1/2 to 1 tsp
Dhania/Corriander powder - 1 tsp
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Salt - to taste
Sesame oil/Gingelly oil - 3 tbsp

For grinding:
Fenugreek - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Mustard - 1 tsp
Pepper - 1 tsp
Dry ginger powder - 1/2 tsp
Hing/Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Onion - 1/2 (chopped)
Tomato -1 (chopped)
Garlic - 2 or 3 cloves
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Sesame oil/Gingelly oil - 1 tbsp

Method:

1) First we need to do the grinding. So heat a pan and add 1 tbsp of oil. Add fenugreek, cumin seeds, mustard and pepper.



2) Also add hing and dry ginger powder.



3) Then add the onion, garlic, tomato and curry leaves.



4) Saute it well for about 3 to 5 minutes until the onions become translucent and tomatoes are cooked.



5) Let it cool and make a fine paste of it.



6) Now heat a pan and add the 3 tbsp oil. Add mustard and once it splutters add finley chopped onion and garlic.



7) Saute it well and add the tomatoes.



8) Add all dry powders and salt.



9) Mix well and add the tamarind juice.



10) Let it boil. Then add the ground paste to it.



11) Cook for about another 5 mins and let it get thick.



Spicy and healthy dry ginger & pepper curry is all set to taste with hot white rice.
